
WEIYU WANG
Weiyu Wang, a Chinese artist, is currently working towards a master's degree in classical voice at the Manhattan School of Music. She is studying under Mary Dunleavy and receiving coaching from Chun-Wei Kang. She has experienced a wide variety of art, ranging from opera and musical theatre to film, dance, and media. In 2023, Weiyu had her first thematic recital in New York.
Weiyu started performing at the age of five. She performed as a soloist in the Shenzhen Middle School Choir, where she received the Champion award in the 3rd Choir-Olympic Competition (now known as the World Choir Games) and won the first prize in the 1st National Student Talent Competition. During that time, she sang at prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House, The Great Hall of the People, Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Beijing Concert Hall, among others.
Weiyu's early career focused on musical theatre performances, which included playing Maureen in Rent, Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Lucy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Women 1 in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
More recently, she has turned her attention to the works of contemporary composers. She originated the roles of Songlian in Red Lantern (which premiered at Beijing's Tianqiao Theatre and subsequently toured nationally), Mother Wong in Spiral (premiered at Sanya's Haitang Theatre, produced by Wanda Entertainment Company), and Caifeng Chen in A Letter Home (performed at Beijing's National Theatre of China and later toured nationally).

Her current opera scene roles in preparation include Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Marzelline in Fidelio, Nannetta in Falstaff and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi.
Weiyu received her bachelor's degree in Film Directing from Peking University. She has studied with esteemed teachers such as Mary Dunleavy, Mignon Dunn, Diana Soviero, Mark Oswald, Meili Li, Xijin Hou and Mei Liu.
